ABOUT THIS BLOG

This blog is a collaborative effort initiated by the European Union to provide a platform for discussion, education, and awareness around the landmark EU legislation on violence against women, adopted in February 2024. We want the blog to serve as a comprehensive resource for information, personal stories, and expert insights related to this historic piece of legislation.

Through a diverse range of perspectives, we aim to shed light on the significance of this law, its implementation, and its impact on the lives of those affected by violence. You will find articles written by EU officials, legal experts, social workers, and advocates, as well as anonymous contributions from survivors who wish to share their experiences. These stories, both empowering and thought-provoking, will give a human face to the statistics and legislative frameworks, ultimately fostering greater understanding and promoting meaningful change.

OUR MISSION

  • Educate and inform the public about the provisions of the new law, its significance, and its potential impact on the lives of women and girls.

  • Provide a safe and inclusive space for survivors to share their stories, amplifying their voices and experiences to drive meaningful change.

  • Facilitate the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and innovative approaches among legal experts, policymakers, service providers, and grassroots organizations working to combat violence against women.

  • Advocate for the continuous improvement and strengthening of the legislative framework, ensuring that it remains responsive to the evolving needs and challenges faced by those affected.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, where perpetrators are held responsible for their actions and victims are empowered to seek justice.

OUR VISION

At the heart of this blog lies a vision of a Europe where violence against women and girls is no longer a pervasive and persistent threat to their safety, dignity, and human rights. We envision a future where all individuals, regardless of gender, can live their lives free from the fear and reality of such violence, empowered to reach their full potential without the shadow of abuse or exploitation.

We want to transform societal attitudes, strengthen support systems, and ensure that justice and accountability become the norm, rather than the exception.
